I posted details a while ago about a Leeds Christmas party for freelancers this festive season. Thanks to a few friends, I finally have a plan.
We have a confirmed date!
First of all, the party has moved to Wednesday 18 December. Having originally thought Mad Friday wouldn’t be too much of an issue for our little get together, I have since remembered the masses of bodies strewn around the Call Lane area and the complete inability for anyone to get a taxi before 6am that occurred last year and realised that may be a problem for some people. The party will start at 7.30pm.
I know a mid-week party seems a bit odd, but I reason that if you’re a freelancer I’m sure you can manage to have 19 December off. Just ask your boss like I did.
Me: Can I have Thursday 19 December off?
Me: Yes you can. But I want those papers on my desk by 3pm this afternoon.
Me: Ok sure, right after I’ve had a cup of tea and an entire packet of Oreos.
We have a venue!
Wax Bar on New Briggate have kindly offered their bar as the venue. Wax Bar is ace because they have a restored jukebox (that works) and yummy cocktails. If you’re not sure where it is, it’s a few doors down from The Grand or a few doors up from Primark.
We have party games!
In the spirit of celebrating the birth of Christ, some friends and I have concocted some ingenious/hilarious games such as ‘Pin the Tie on the CEO’, ‘Pass the Food Parcel’ and ‘Things I Hate About My Tax Return’. Seriously, we have some fun stuff lined up to keep the good will flowing.
What do you need to do?
Well some numbers might be good so I can let the bar know. Seriously, this isn’t set up as some big networking event, it’s just an informal bit of fun for freelancers to have the opportunity to meet up and give each other some mutual support in what can be a very challenging industry. It’s sort of like matching homeless people to loving families for Christmas dinner. Only a little less sad/charitable. Sorta.
Just let me know in the comments below or email me to let me know you’re coming.
